The most wonderful time of the year is also one of the busiest decorating times of the year. It’s always fun at first, to get out all the special decorations and plan on where to put them. The reality is, as time goes by the fun wears off and we become weary of it – the perfect time for accidents to happen! Follow these safety tips to keep hazards to a minimum:
- Chec
k each strand of your lights very carefully. Discard any that look to have been damaged in any way. You don’t want lights with loose connections, cracked parts or exposed wires. If you see any of these signs, make sure you discard them as they are fire hazards.
- Getting lights up in high places can be a challenge. Make sure you use a ladder that is the correct size, overextending on short ladders leads to falls and injuries. Did you know ladders have certifications for application standards? Check yours out to make sure it’s right for the job.
- Keep fires and carbon monoxide poisoning at bay with the proper equipment. Installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on each floor will act as warnings for your family’s safety. Check them regularly to make sure they are functioning as they are meant to.
A little preparation and attention to detail will go a long way this season in keeping you and yours safe!
