5 Questions with…Jeff Cotten

Our Phoenix branch is hosting a recruiting event on February 3rd to add members to their commercial sales team. To help out our potential attendees, I interviewed Jeff Cotten, our district manager, and Braxton Winn, a district commercial sales manager, in my “5 Questions With…” series to learn more about them, the Phoenix culture, and why Protection 1 is the best place for your career. First up, one of our most tenured employees at Protection 1, Jeff Cotten.

1. What is your favorite part about Protection 1?
I like the people!  From our customers , to our employees, to our Leadership Team.  We have a happy customer base with a 97.3% satisfaction rating.  We have employees that care about those customers and we have a Leadership Team that supports us!

2. What advice do you have for anyone thinking about applying for a career at Protection 1?
Apply today!  P1 is a great place to work and build a career. I’ve been here 22 years and with any company in business that long, there are good times and bad times.  I’m happy to say that today are the best of times at P1. We are committed to employee growth and advancement. We are committed to a world-class customer service experience. We are committed to be the best the alarm industry has to offer!

3. What traits do you look for when building your team?
I look for people with a professional appearance and demeanor that I would feel comfortable with if they were in my home or business. I want someone self-motivated, ambitious, and eager to learn. I want someone that is not afraid to work hard to get what they want. I want someone that wants to make a difference and take care of our customers. If you have those qualities, this is the place for you.

4. What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I was once a professional cook. I worked mostly night shifts and during the day, I would moonlight for extra money. A friend of our family owned an alarm company and I started working with him has a helper pulling wires. I liked the alarm industry so much, I switched careers in 1987 and haven’t looked back! I still enjoy cooking and do so all the time for friends and family.

5. What is your favorite sports team to cheer for?
I was born and raised in San Diego, so I’m a die-hard Chargers fan!  Go Bolts!

Thanks for the time, Jeff!
